Alarm Detection Device Zoning or Point ID

The importance of alarm devices being individually identifiable can not be minimized. It is a great convenience to the alarm user and an invaluable aid to emergency responders. And it is the best solution to reducing false alarms. Grouping a bank of windows, smoke detectors or motion detectors on a single hardwire terminal or wireless transmitter can have catastrophic consequences. Here are just a few reasons to break up those home run wires into individual zones when you upgrade your old basic builder alarm package.

Why is Zoning so important?

  • Alarm users can more easily find that open door or window when the alarm is “not ready to arm” and they are in a hurry to leave.
  • Police, Fire or Medical Responders can be told exactly where to look when they arrive on scene…..saving time and lives.
  • You don’t have to leave your entire system, or a big chunk of it, disarmed when you have a problem with one upstairs window switch. Just bypass it, arm the rest of the system and call for repairs at your convenience.
  • Repair costs are minimized if the alarm service technician does not have to hunt around for a problem to repair. And the tech can be more certain when a repair is made. Zoning reduces “go back” service requests to continue hunting for a false alarm problem. There could have been more than one swinging switch going in and out of alarm on that multiple device zone. Individual Zoning or Device Point ID eliminates the guess work in repair service.
